Start your permaculture learning journey with APW
Laying the Foundations is our comprehensive 18-part introduction to permaculture and the first course in the APW Foundation Programme.
Your registration includes 18 professionally produced videos, structured learning and activities, online hui and webinars, downloadable resources, forum participation, access to tutors and the wider learning community, and opportunities to connect in person through our opening and closing events.
More than simply an online course, Laying the Foundations is an opportunity to explore permaculture with others and begin a longer learning journey through the APW Foundation Programme.
Choose the price that works for you
We want the programme to remain accessible while ensuring APW can continue producing high-quality permaculture education.
Our sliding-scale community pricing allows you to choose the level that best reflects your circumstances. Everyone receives the same course and learning experience.
Pay-it-Forward — $600
For people who have the capacity to contribute a little more and help us keep the programme accessible to others.
Standard Community — $500
Our standard course fee and the best reflection of the cost of delivering the programme.
Supported Community — $400
For people who would benefit from a lower course fee to make participation possible.
Professional / Organisation — $1,500
For participation supported by an employer or organisation, or where the course is being undertaken primarily for professional development.

Individual tickets for the opening and closing events will also be available for approximately $50 - $100 per event excluding transport, accommodation and other expenses

Learn together — Local Learning Communities
Permaculture is richer when we learn, discuss and put ideas into practice with others.
We encourage friends, whānau, colleagues and local communities to take the course together and form their own Local Learning Community.
Register 3 participants and receive 5 event tickets.
Register 5 participants and receive 10 event tickets.
These bundles are designed to help bring people together locally — sharing the learning journey and exploring how the ideas can be applied in your own community and place.
Organisations and Professional Development
We welcome registrations from councils, consultancies, NGOs, community organisations and educational institutions.
Organisational licences are available for groups wanting to undertake Laying the Foundations together, with optional facilitated discussion sessions available to help connect the course material with your organisation's work and professional practice.
